This is the final result that we are after! This is a great CR3032 battery compartment with leads already attached an an on/off switch ready to go! LED chip lights as they come shipped in batches of 100 or 200. Be vareful cutting out the LED chip from the plastic snake. You’ll only need one battery to power this for like two weeks straight. So bend the copper contacts on the battery farthest away from the hinge so that they touch when the compartment is closed. Here’s the Land Raider ready for installation. Note that the top is not yet installed! Drill the first hole through to the interior of the engine compartment, but behind the engine wall that we can see from the entrance ramp. I use epoxy to glue the battery compartment righy next to the track and very close to this hole. Here are holes 1 and 2 noted with red dots. Here is hole 3, nearby where the LED will be set in place. The wires are routed and the battery compartment is glued in place. I solder the wire leads to each side of the LED chip. “Tin” them first to make it easier. I hold the chip steady with Blue-Tac while soldering. And here is the LED held in place out of sight with some green stuff. All done!
That’s all there is to it. I tested the setup with the single battery and it went for weeks at a time. You can also paint over the LED to give it a little more vibe. Some of the battery compartments are a little fiddly and need to be really squeezed to make all the connections happen. I use a little hot-glue or bits of sprue to help when necessary. Enjoy!
